Too many WIPs? Nah! March 2, 2013

Why is it that many knitters tend to start a project and get going with another one when the first one isn’t close to getting off the neeldles yet?  I said to myself I wouldn’t be like that at all. No..no!  I was very much at peace with one project ONLY, but lately I have been antsy to start another.  The problem is that the LYS we have here sells beautiful yarns and each yarn seems to be calling your name and be made into something special.  At the start of the new year, i said to myself no going to yarn store unless 1) i ran out of yarn and 2) project is completely done.  Fail!  I could only handle close to a month of not going.  Yes, i browsed, touched and squeezed those yarns.  Can’t help but buy ;-)   I think its better than any other vices.

Aidez is still patiently waiting to get done.  Here’s my progress ->

Left front started

I am just needing some big nudge to finish it.  No worries…it will get done.

Another project that surfaced after a long hibernation is my  Drops design bolero  which I started last summer?  Well, its being worked on again.

Beautiful pattern!

The above is not my photo but Garnstudio’s.  I am hoping to finish this soon as I plan to use it on my trip to Southeast Asia.  Yes, its blistering hot there, but when you get indoors you will get chilled as the airconditiong is cranked to the max.

Now the yarns, 2 of which I recently purchased and 1 stashed will be made into something special.

The yarn above is so pretty in the most beach like color.  It reminds me of sand dollars with its pink and sand hues.  I am using this to make the Wave shawl by Kristen Finlay.  Something I can see myself wearing during the summer nights when temp drops to a balmy 60 degs F.  Love being in California.

Another project waiting to cast on is the Azzus shawl by Emma Fassio.  Yarn I chose for this one is the one below.

Tosh Merino LIght in Jade

And this stashed Tosh Merino light in Saffron will be gifted to Ravelry friend in Manila.  This is the same yarn I used to make my featherweight cardigan with.  One skein left from that project.

Too many works in progress?  I think not.  This is nothing compared to other crazy knitters out there. LOL

Knitting my own Aidez February 28, 2013

There are about 8000 knitters out there who have queued up Cirilia Rose’s Aidez  on Ravelry and 2500 others who have knitted their Aidez.  Isn’t that amazing?  Its a global knitting gig :-)   I am inspired to knit it too.  The pattern is so lovely and easy to follow.  I am however very finicky with yarn choices.  At first i have picked up worsted weight yarn just because i could not find a bulky yarn that grabbed my attention at the yarn store.  I swatched, checked gauge, played with yarn and started knitting Aidez on double stranded yarn.  Eck…too rug like.  The material became too stiff.  Back to swatching again after ripping it out.  I tried knitting with the worsted weight, single stranded this time. went down 2 sizes with needles and followed a pattern one size up to get XS.  Frogged it again.  Not liking the drape.  Oh no…hope this is not a sign that i would be knitting and frogging the whole entire project.  I have finally chosen to knit my Aidez in Cascade Eco + in the most delicious looking purple.  Keeping my fingers crossed all will end well.  Below is a pix of the pattern posted on Flickr.

I think I can do this!  Hmmmm….I know i can :-)

The back is done…moving on to the Left front.  Too slow!  I believe i will finish this by Christmas.  At the rate i’m going, i will be awarded best “snail” knitter.

I should have joined a KAL.  Makes me knit quicker.  I guess there is no need to rush, right?

Let’s see if my best friend would know this one is hers.  Haha.  She loves anything gray.  Found this free pattern on Ravelry.  I found it easy to knit being my first time knitting cables.  This turned out nice, so hip and definitely warm.

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas every where you go.  It’s now December and with Thanksgiving upon us, we gear up for the coming Christmas holiday.  We are all looking forward to family visits, great dinners to be shared by all, and baking cookies and other scrumptious treats for gift giving.  Our home is decorated.  Christmas cards are in the works and knitted gift ideas are queued up for me to work on.  I got time, right?  Geez Louise…19 more days till Christmas!

On the knitting front, I finished my Terra Linda!  Yay!  I am such a fan of Knit alongs as I find myself finishing up more of my projects that way.  I am however 2 days late but at least i finished the cardigan before Christmas :-)   I am so happy my TL  turned out fine even with the big difference in dye color with the next batch of yarn I had ordered.  This project is so much fun to knit and I have received so many wonderful compliments while wearing it.  One of my fave cardi by far.  And of course,  it’s more special because it’s made by Me ;-) (Can’t buy it at Antropologie nor at Nordstroms).  very special indeed!

Being done with Featherweight cardi made me pick up another knitting project.  I’ve been working on Terra Linda cardigan by Romi Hill.  I am enjoying this pattern and the Madelinetosh vintage yarn is just so lovely to knit with.  Here’s what I have so far.  Can’t wait to finish it up so I can wear it during the Holidays.

Just finishing up the length of the body and I am on my way to knitting up some sleeves.  I hope i don’t get distracted with another project before getting this done.  Oh joy!

I have been wanting to join a KAL for awhile now and I finally did.  I joined Nice and Knit KAL in Sept.  Its a great way to motivate yourself in finishing up your work.  I picked up Featherweight cardigan and knitted with Madelinetosh light yarn in saffron.  LOVE the color and LOVE working with this yarn.  I also enjoyed knitting this project.  So easy to take anywhere and no concentration needed as there are rows and rows of stockinette stitches.  Here are pix from the beginning till it turned out into a a nice piece which I am so happy to be wearing.  I will definitely knit this again and again.
